Finally decided to read "Pride and Prejudice" (Jane Austin) last night to find out why it was so popular among members of the "fairer sex". I've never seen the movie or read any other of the authors works. Any way downloaded a copy from Project Gutenberg and started reading it.
It's surprisingly good or to look at it another way it managed to keep me interested enough to finish it in one sitting, It wasn't as long as I thought it would be though I guess 6 hours reading is decent.
Any way back to the book the portrayal of the major characters is very well done as is the entire feel of the Society, an interesting look at early 19th century (I assume) English gentry.

Ha! We have converted you! Yes, I saw the movies before I read the book, wasn't sure what it would be like, but it is a really good book whether 18th century women's novels are your thing or not. Her other stuff is equally well written, although I do think P&P is one of her best.
I think I prefer Persuasion.
6 hours?! That's only just longer than the movie! That's phenomenal! Or do most people in the world read that fast? I don't think I've read a book in one sitting since picture books!
Yep, early 19th century - 1813 comes to mind.
Most people I know don't read any were near that fast, I'm just kind of bookworm/addicted to reading.
Kind of annoying to some degree as it means 20 or so books from the library last little more than a week at most, if they're any good.
